What this is, and what it is not

Today's riel exchange rate for the dollar, baht, dong, yuan and 13 more currencies, with a converter, a chart of the last year and what moved this month. Free, in Khmer and English.

The rates come from an open dataset published once a day and placed in the public domain. The page reads it straight from the dataset's two public hosts.

They are mid-market reference rates. Nobody trades at exactly these: a bank or a money changer quotes its own buying and selling prices around them.

Cambodia's tax department publishes its own official rate for tax. It is close to this one, and it is not the same number.

This page does not advise anyone to buy or sell a currency. It shows what the data says and how it has moved.

Questions people ask

Why is this different from the rate at my bank or money changer?

This is a mid-market reference rate: the middle between what buyers and sellers pay. A bank or a money changer adds its own margin, so you buy a little dearer and sell a little cheaper.

How often does it change?

The dataset publishes one set of rates a day. The page looks for a new day every half hour for as long as it stays open.

Is this the official rate for tax?

No. For tax on salary the tax department publishes its own official rate. This page shows a market reference.

Where does my data go?

Nowhere. The amount you type stays in your browser. To get the rates your browser asks a public file host, which sees your IP address and the day asked for, never the amount.

Is it free?

Yes. No account and no advertising.
